Families in Sacramento County have the chance to receive $725 a month in direct financial support through a new guaranteed income program, and applications are still open. The initiative is designed to support low-income households facing rising costs and limited access to opportunities.
This new monthly payment, often referred to as a California stimulus-style support program, will run for a full year and aims to reach families who need help the most.
What the Program Offers
The Sacramento Family First Economic Support Pilot (FFESP) will provide $725 per month for 12 months, adding up to $8,700 in total assistance. The program is designed for around 200 eligible families across selected communities in Sacramento County.
The first payment will be issued on December 15, 2024, with monthly deposits continuing until November 15, 2025.
Who the Payments Are Designed For
Data from behealthysacramento.org shows that African American, Native American, and Alaskan Native families in Sacramento County had some of the lowest median household incomes in 2023. This pilot program focuses on reducing that gap and giving parents the financial stability to care for their families and improve their mental well-being.
Officials say steady income can help families cover bills on time, lower stress, and reduce the likelihood of child welfare involvement.
Eligibility Requirements for the $725 Monthly Payments
To qualify for this guaranteed income program, applicants must meet the following:
1. Have a child aged five or younger
The child must live with the parent or legal guardian at least 50% of the time.

Why This Program Matters
Experts say guaranteed income programs have long-term benefits. Dr. Steve Wirtz, a developmental psychologist and First 5 Sacramento commissioner, explains that consistent monthly income helps families cover essential needs, reduce stress, and create a more stable environment for children.
He also notes that more than 150 similar guaranteed income programs are operating across the country, all showing positive results for low-income families.
How to Apply
More details and the application portal are available through the United Way California Capital Region website. Applicants must live in one of the eligible ZIP codes and meet all other requirements.
Other Guaranteed Income Programs in the U.S.
Sacramento isn’t the only region rolling out financial support. In Harris County, Texas, nearly 1,928 families will receive $500 per month for 18 months through a separate universal income program funded by the American Rescue Plan Act. Recipients will also be selected through a lottery.
These monthly payments are intended to help households keep up with rising expenses and maintain financial stability.
