The UCC 3 and 5-Semester Undergraduate Programmes have been introduced by the University of Cape Coast, through the Institute of Education in collaboration with the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), to enable Diploma holders in the teaching fraternity to upgrade to the Bachelor’s Degree level.
This has come as good news and a game changer to the to the Ghanaian basic schoolteacher, especially those with the Diploma in Basic Education (DBE), and the entire GES since one does not need to obtain a study leave to pursue any of these programmes.
But unfortunately, the programmes are not free. These programmes come with some financial burden and considered a bit cost intensive due to some factors. But don’t let this scare you at all. I will give you the breakdown of the fees to be paid.
The 3 and 5-Semester Sandwich Fees
Many a times, the questions ‘’how much does it cost to do the UCC 3 and 5-Semester undergraduate programmes?’’. ‘’What are the fees for the 2024/2025 academic year Sandwich Programme?’’ and many more pops up.
Are you an undergraduate teacher seeking to upgrade to the bachelor’s degree level through the sandwich mode? Are you seeking to have a fair idea of how much it will cost you to do this programme? If your answer to any of the questions is yes, then this article is for you.
In this article, I will give you a record of fees paid for both the 3 and the 5 semester programmes from the 2021/2022 academic year to date.
Fees for the 3-Semester Programme and Schedules
The Three Semester programme as the name goes is scheduled to run for three long vacations. Students are engaged for 6 weeks in each of these vacations. Fees are paid on semester basis.

Fees for the first semester covers admission, tuition, feeding and residential accommodation. That of the second and third semesters cover tuition, feeding and residential accommodation.
In the 2021/2022 academic year, applicants paid a total of about GHc 2,136.00 and paid a little less than this amount each for the second and third semesters.
For the 2022/2023 academic year, applicants paid a total of GHc 2,480.00 as admission fee and paid GHc 2,680.00 each for the second and third semester.
For the 2023/2024 academic year, applicants paid a total of about GHs 2,750.00 as admission fees and paid a total of GHc 2,660.00 for the second semester. Fees for the third semester is yet to be determined.
Hence those who want to pursue this programme for the 2024/2025 academic year should budget for a minimum of GHc 3,000.00 for each of the three semesters.
Note that these fees do not cover other expenses such as transportation, handouts, graduation and other essential course materials. Therefore, to successfully pursue the 3-Semester undergraduate sandwich programme for the 2024/2025 academic year, applicant’s budget should be around a minimum of GHc 12,000.00 for the entire programme.
Fees for the 5-Semester Undergraduate Programme and Schedules
The 5-Semester Sandwich programme is scheduled to run for five (5) long vacations with 6 weeks engagement time in each of the vacations.
Fees paid for the 2021/2022 academic year include about GHs 2,450.00 as admission and paid a little less or more of this amount for each of the remaining four semesters.
For the 2022/2023 academic year, applicants paid a total of GHc 2,500.00 as admission fee, GHc 2,580.00 for the second semester, GHc 2,450.00 for the third semester, GHc 2,750.00 for the fourth semester and GHc 2,820.00 for the fifth semester.
For the 2023/2024 academic year, applicants paid an admission fee of GHc 2,950.00, GHc 2,930.00 for the second semester and that of the remaining semesters are yet to be determined.
Applicants who have plans of pursuing the programme for the 2024/2025 academic year should budget for not less than GHc 3,200.00 per semester, and GHc 16,000.00 for the entire programme.
Kindly note that there may be other expenses such transportation to and from the centres and essential course materials such as handouts.
Note also that the UCC 3 and 5-semester sandwich undergraduate fees are not fixed but adjusted, mostly positively from time to time.
