{"id":176,"date":"2025-11-23T19:12:19","date_gmt":"2025-11-23T19:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/myinformernews.com\/uk\/?p=176"},"modified":"2025-11-23T19:12:21","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T19:12:21","slug":"apply-for-the-utilita-warm-home-discount","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/myinformernews.com\/uk\/apply-for-the-utilita-warm-home-discount\/","title":{"rendered":"Apply for the Utilita Warm Home Discount 2025: Eligibility and Guide"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Warm Home Discount, or WHD, provides a one-off \u00a3150 discount on your electricity bill to help low-income households with energy costs during the winter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Utilita Energy, as a compulsory participant, provides this discount, but the application process and eligibility rules are different depending on whether you live in England, Wales, or Scotland.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For most people in England and Wales, the process is now automatic, but customers in Scotland and some others still <a href=\"https:\/\/myinformernews.com\/uk\/dwp-299-cost-of-living-payment\/\">need to apply<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The scheme runs from October 2025 to March 2026. The key qualifying date for eligibility is 24 August 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the Eligibility Groups for England and Wales?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you live in England or Wales, the Warm Home Discount scheme is now automatic for almost all eligible customers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are split into one of two Core Groups, and you do not need to apply if you are in either group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. Core Group 1 (Pensioners)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You automatically qualify for the \u00a3150 discount if all of the following apply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit on the qualifying date of<strong> 24 August 2025<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your name, or your partner\u2019s name, was on the electricity bill with Utilita on the qualifying date.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department for Work and Pensions, or DWP, will use its data to identify you and will send you a letter between October and December 2025 confirming your discount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Core Group 2 (Wider Low Income)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You automatically qualify for the \u00a3150 discount if all of the following apply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your name, or your partner\u2019s name, was on the electricity bill with Utilita on the qualifying date of <strong>24 August 2025<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You received one of the following means-tested benefits on the qualifying date:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Housing Benefit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, or ESA<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Income-based Jobseeker\u2019s Allowance, or JSA<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Income Support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Universal Credit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Savings Credit element of Pension Credit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are in this group, the DWP will automatically identify you, and you will receive a letter between October and December 2025 confirming the discount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application Guide for Customers in Scotland (Broader Group)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rules are different in Scotland, and if you are a low-income customer who is not receiving the Pension Credit Guarantee Credit, you usually need to apply directly to Utilita.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is often referred to as the Broader Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Eligibility for the Scottish Broader Group:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Utilita\u2019s Scottish Broader Group eligibility is based on a main benefit and a sub-element criterion. You must receive:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One of the Main Benefits such as Universal Credit, Income Support, or Income-based JSA.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AND One of the sub-elements, such as responsibility for a child under five living with you, or receiving the disabled child premium.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When is Utilita\u2019s Application Window?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Utilita runs a limited application window for its Broader Group customers in Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Application Period: <\/strong>The application window for the 2025 to 2026 scheme is typically set for a short time. Based on previous years, it has been as short as <strong>17 to 29 October 2025<\/strong>, or sometimes earlier in September.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How to Apply<\/strong>: You must visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/my.utilita.co.uk\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/my.utilita.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Utilita website<\/a> or use the My Utilita app during the application period and complete the online form. You may need to provide evidence, such as a full PDF copy of your most recent Universal Credit statement or an award letter from the DWP.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Selection: <\/strong>Due to the limited funding, not all successful applications are guaranteed payment. Utilita often uses a random selection process for applicants who meet the eligibility criteria, a process approved by the regulator, Ofgem.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to do if you do not receive a confirmation letter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you live in England or Wales, are eligible for Core Group 1 or 2, and have not received your confirmation letter from the DWP by early January 2026, you should take action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Contact the WHD Helpline:<\/strong> The DWP provides a dedicated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/the-warm-home-discount-scheme\/get-help\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Warm Home Discount helpline<\/a>. You should call this number to check your eligibility and ask why you have not received your letter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Deadline for Contact:<\/strong> You must contact the helpline by <strong>27 February 2026<\/strong> to ensure you are considered for the discount before the scheme ends.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is important that your name on your Utilita account exactly matches the name the DWP holds on its records, as any mismatch could prevent your automatic payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When and how will the \u00a3150 discount be paid?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \u00a3150 discount is a one-off rebate and is not paid out in cash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Payment Deadline:<\/strong> The discount must be applied to your Utilita electricity account by <strong>31 March 2026<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Direct Debit\/Bill Pay<\/strong>: If you pay your bill by Direct Debit or pay upon receipt of your bill, the \u00a3150 will be credited directly to your energy account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Prepayment Meter:<\/strong> If you use a prepayment meter, the \u00a3150 will be sent directly to your electricity meter as credit.
