CRA Confirmation Number: How to Find and Verify It

When you file your tax return online through NETFILE, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) provides a unique CRA confirmation number.

This number verifies that your tax return has been successfully received. Without it, your return is not officially submitted.

How to Find Your CRA Confirmation Number in UFile

For Tax Year 2014

  1. Click on the NETFILE tab.
  2. Select the taxpayer whose confirmation number you need.
  3. The confirmation number will appear under Step 3 – Transmission Status.

For Tax Year 2015 and Later

  1. Select the taxpayer profile.
  2. Click the NETFILE tab.
  3. From the left-hand menu, choose Federal Submission.
  4. If your return was successfully transmitted, the CRA confirmation number and submission date will display on the right side of the screen.

Important: If you do not save the UFile data file after submission, the confirmation number and transmission date will not be stored.

How to Find Your CRA Confirmation Number in Wealthsimple Tax

  1. Open your Tax Profile.
  2. Go to the Submit section.
  3. Locate the confirmation number issued by the CRA.

Additionally, you should check your email for a message titled CRA submission confirmation. This email is sent from support@wealthsimple.com.

Note: If you receive a NETFILE error during submission, your return was not accepted. Contact Wealthsimple support at tax@wealthsimple.com for assistance. Be aware that after five failed attempts, your NETFILE account will be locked.

Revenu Québec Confirmation Number

For Quebec taxpayers using Wealthsimple Tax:

  1. Open your Tax Profile.
  2. Go to the Submit section for Quebec.
  3. Locate the confirmation number provided by Revenu Québec.

You can also confirm by checking your email for a Revenu Québec submission confirmation from support@wealthsimple.com.

Key Notes About CRA Confirmation Numbers

  • A confirmation number is proof that the CRA or Revenu Québec has received your return.
  • The number remains available in the Submit section until you file an amendment.
  • If you amend your return, a new confirmation number will be issued under ReFILE.
  • The confirmation message only appears once, right after submission.
  • A payment receipt for your tax software purchase is not proof of filing.
