NYS Rebate Checks 2026–2026: Who Qualifies, How Much You’ll Get, and When to Expect Yours

NY STAR Stimulus Payment

The 2026–2026 New York State budget introduced a new benefit for millions of residents — NYS rebate checks, also called inflation refund checks. These one-time payments are designed to help New Yorkers who have faced higher living costs and paid increased sales taxes due to inflation.

If you qualify, you don’t need to apply or take any action. The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance will automatically mail your check. Distribution started at the end of September 2026 and will continue through October and November.

Who Qualifies for the NYS Rebate Check?

You may be eligible for a New York inflation refund check if, for the 2023 tax year, you:

  • Filed Form IT-201 (New York State Resident Income Tax Return).
  • Reported income within the qualifying thresholds below.
  • Were not claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer’s return.

How to Receive Your NYS Rebate Check

No application is needed. If you meet the eligibility requirements, your inflation refund check will be automatically mailed to the address the state has on file from your latest tax return.

Checks are not distributed by ZIP code or region, and there’s no specific delivery schedule. You may receive your payment before or after others in your area.

The Tax Department Contact Center will not have updates on individual check statuses.

When to Expect Your Check

Mailing began at the end of September 2026 and will continue throughout the fall. Most residents can expect their NYS rebate checks to arrive by October or November 2026.

Due to the large number of recipients, the mailing process is taking several weeks. Over 8 million New Yorkers are set to receive a rebate payment.
