Governor Kathy Hochul has confirmed that NY State inflation checks are being mailed to 8.2 million households starting this week. Eligible New Yorkers will receive checks of up to $400 automatically — there’s no need to apply, sign up, or submit any forms.
Deliveries will continue through October and November 2026, with checks arriving directly by mail.

The amount depends on your 2023 tax filing status and income:

Calculate Your 2026 COLA Increase →- You filed a 2023 New York State Resident Income Tax Return (Form IT-201)
- Your income falls within the eligible range
- You were not claimed as a dependent on another tax return
If you meet these requirements, your NY State inflation check will arrive automatically.
When Will Checks Arrive?
Mailings began in late September and will continue through October and November. Delivery dates are not based on zip code, so your check may arrive earlier or later than neighbors in your area.
Why Is New York Sending Inflation Checks?
The state collected higher-than-expected sales tax revenue due to rising prices. Instead of keeping the surplus, the government is sending it back to residents through the NY State inflation check program.
This refund aims to help households cover smaller but urgent expenses — like groceries, utility bills, or unexpected repairs — at a time when many families are struggling with the cost of living.
