Early DWP Payment Tomorrow: Universal Credit Hits Bank Accounts on 22 August

DWP PIP Claimants Could See Payments Rise to Nearly £800 in 2025

Thousands of people claiming Universal Credit and other benefits will see an early DWP payment arrive in their bank accounts tomorrow, Friday 22 August, ahead of the bank holiday.

Normally, benefits due on a public holiday are paid on the first working day before, which is why Monday’s usual payment on 25 August is arriving early this week.

What you need to know:

  • The amount you receive won’t change unless your circumstances have recently changed.
  • If you don’t see your early payment tomorrow, check your usual payment date and contact your bank.
  • For further help or complaints about unpaid benefits, contact the DWP or visit gov.uk/how-to-have-your-benefits-paid.

Budget carefully
Getting your payment early is a bonus, but it’s important to stretch your benefits until the next payment. Plan ahead to avoid running out of money before your usual schedule.

Other important updates
Households still on legacy benefits like tax credits, income support, housing benefit, or income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance are being moved to Universal Credit under the Managed Migration program, expected to complete by 2026.

Claimants receiving income-related ESA must transition to Universal Credit by March 2026 to maintain financial support. ESA helps those unable to work due to illness or disability.

Some families may also be eligible for free support via the Household Support Fund (HSF). Currently, 8 million people claim Universal Credit, highlighting the scale of support provided.

Tomorrow’s early DWP payment on 22 August is a welcome boost for thousands. Stay informed, check your account, and budget wisely to make the most of your benefits this month.
