UCC Sandwich Programmes for Secondary Education – 2026/2026 Admissions

The University of Cape Coast (UCC), in partnership with the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) through the Institute of Education, is inviting applications for its 5-Semester Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Sandwich Programmes in Secondary Education for the 2026/2026 academic year.

This programme is designed for basic school teachers who want to upgrade their qualifications and acquire the necessary training to teach at the Senior High School (SHS) level.

Programme Structure

  • Duration: 5 sandwich semesters
  • Mode: Runs during long vacations, with six weeks of intensive study each session
  • Target Group: Diploma in Basic Education (DBE) holders who wish to transition into secondary education teaching
  • Outcome: Bachelor of Education degree in the chosen specialisation, recognised by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC)

  2. B.Ed. Science
  3. B.Ed. Arts
  4. B.Ed. Social Studies

  7. B.Ed. Management
  8. B.Ed. Accounting
  9. B.Ed. Information Technology

General Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission into the UCC Sandwich Programmes for Secondary Education, applicants must:

  • Hold a Diploma in Basic Education (DBE) from an accredited institution (Ghana or international equivalent)
  • Possess SSSCE/WASSCE passes in at least two relevant elective subjects
  • Meet specific subject requirements for the chosen programme

Specific Course Requirements

1. B.Ed. Mathematics

  • DBE (Science & Mathematics Option)
  • Credit in Elective Mathematics and one of: Chemistry, Physics, Economics (SSSCE/WASSCE)

2. B.Ed. Science

  • DBE (Science & Mathematics Option)
  • Credit in any two: Chemistry, Physics, Elective Mathematics, Biology

3. B.Ed. Arts

  • DBE (General)
  • Credit in any two: Christian/Islamic Religious Studies, History, Literature in English, French, Ghanaian Language

4. B.Ed. Social Sciences

  • DBE (General)
  • Credit in any two: Economics, Geography, Elective Mathematics

5. B.Ed. Social Studies

  • DBE (General)
  • Credit in Geography and one of: Economics, History, Government

6. B.Ed. Home Economics

  • DBE (General)
  • Credit in any two: Food & Nutrition, Clothing & Textiles, Management in Living, General Knowledge in Arts, Biology, Chemistry

7. B.Ed. Management

  • DBE (General)
  • Credit in Business Management and any two: Accounting, Costing, Economics, Elective Mathematics

8. B.Ed. Accounting

  • DBE (General)
  • Credit in Accounting and any two: Business Management, Costing, Economics, Elective Mathematics

9. B.Ed. Information Technology

  • DBE (General)
  • Credit in any two: Economics, Business Management, Accounting, Elective Mathematics

Important Note

The UCC Sandwich Programme for Secondary Education is only open to basic school teachers who already hold a Diploma in Basic Education. Applicants without a DBE or those who have not passed the DBE are not eligible.

  1. Purchase an e-voucher from any Ghana Post Office or approved UCC sales point (including GCB Bank, ADB, CBG, Republic Bank, Prudential Bank, Zenith Bank).
  2. Visit the online portalapply.ucc.edu.gh
  3. Select your programme, fill in the required details, and submit your application before the stated deadline.
