11 August 2026 – One of South Africa’s most famous restaurants, the Seven Spur in Sea Point, Cape Town, will close later this month after 56 years of serving customers.
Spur Corporation confirmed that the Seven Spur closing is due to the landlord’s plans to redevelop the property, which means the lease will not be renewed. The company says it is already searching for a new location so this much-loved branch can continue elsewhere.
The Seven Spur first opened in 1968 at the corner of Main and Conifer Roads, becoming the second Spur restaurant in South Africa after the first in Newlands. Over the years, it moved twice before settling at its current Arthur’s Road location in 2006.
Generations of Capetonians and tourists have visited the Seven Spur, making it a popular spot for family meals, celebrations, and casual dining. Its closure marks the end of an era for one of the most recognisable branches in the Spur Steak Ranches chain.

As of December 2026, the Spur group operated 726 restaurants in 15 countries, with 619 of them in South Africa. Spur remains the top-performing brand in the group, contributing 64% of South African restaurant sales.
The Seven Spur will remain open until mid-August, and the company has invited customers to share their memories on Facebook so they can “celebrate the good times together” before the final day.
While the Seven Spur closing is bittersweet for loyal customers, Spur continues to grow in South Africa, with 21 new restaurants opened in the second half of 2026 alone.
