Maryland shoppers are gearing up for the MD tax free weekend 2026, officially running from Sunday, August 10 through Saturday, August 16. For one week only, certain items will be exempt from the state’s 6% sales tax, giving families and back-to-school shoppers a chance to save money.
MD Tax Free Weekend 2026
Maryland’s tax-free event allows customers to buy eligible clothing, footwear, and backpacks without paying the usual state sales and use tax. The rules are straightforward:
- Clothing & Footwear: Tax-free if priced under $100 per item.
- Backpacks & Bookbags: The first $40 of the purchase price is tax-free.
- No Limit on Quantity: You can buy as many qualifying items as you want – the exemption applies to each eligible purchase.
With the cost of living on the rise, the tax holiday is a welcome opportunity to stretch your budget. Maryland Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman says shopping during this week not only helps families save money but also supports local businesses across the state.
