You can now apply for the Ghana Card online
As of Monday, 5th May 2025, the National Identification Authority (NIA) requires all applicants seeking premium registration services to apply and book appointments online through the official portal: register.nia.gov.gh. These premium services include:
- First-time registration
- Card replacement
- Personal information update
Please note: Premium registration services at the NIA Head Office in Shiashie are permanently closed.
New Premium Registration Centres
You can now complete your Ghana Card application at the following premium centres:
- Cal Bank Headquarters, Ridge – Digital Address: GA-052-4957
- Accra Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), Legon City Campus – Digital Address: GA-076-0326
Online Registration and Booking Process
Here are the 7 simple steps to apply for your Ghana Card online:
Step 1: Fill the Online Application Form
Visit register.nia.gov.gh and complete the application form with your accurate personal information.
Step 2: Pay the Registration Fee
Make the required payment online to secure your appointment.
Step 3: Book an Interview
Schedule an appointment for a virtual or in-person interview. During the interview, a registration officer will review and approve your application to proceed.
Step 4: Receive a QR Code
After your interview is approved, you’ll receive a QR code. Present this at your chosen Premium Centre.
Step 5: Book Biometric Capture
Use your QR code to book another appointment for biometric data capture.
Step 6: Biometric Data Collection
On your appointment date, visit the selected centre to have your fingerprints, iris scan, photograph, and signature captured.
Step 7: Card Issuance
Your Ghana Card will be printed and issued to you.
Can I register for the Ghana Card online?
Yes. As of May 2025, you must use the NIA’s official portal (register.nia.gov.gh) to register and book an appointment for premium services.
Is the Ghana Card still free?
The standard Ghana Card registration is free, but premium services such as express issuance, replacements, and updates come with a fee.
Can I check my Ghana Card online?
You can view your Ghana Card details digitally by downloading the Ghana.gov CitizenApp from your app store. It provides a secure, digital version of your card.
How can I download the Ghana Card?
You cannot download a physical card, but you can view and verify your Ghana Card on the CitizenApp, which is accepted for various digital services.
