Government to evacuate Ghanaians to safety following the over a weeklong disturbances of the rivalry military clash in Khartoum. The Ghanaian government has announced plans to evacuate its nationals from Khartoum, Sudan, to Ethiopia.
This action has become necessary due to the deadly conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary, Rapid Support Forces, which has led to many casualties and has left the capital, Khartoum, and other parts of Sudan, inaccessible by humanitarian support.
According to a press statement by Government, Ghanaian nationals who are most affected by the conflict are students.
It further stated that so far, all Ghanaians in Sudan are safe, and that the Ghana Embassy in Cairo, Egypt which has concurrent accreditation to the Sudan, is working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration as well as the Honorary Consulate in Sudan to provide safe passage for Ghanaians to Ethiopia.
“Government wishes to assured the general public; especially the families and friends of Ghanaians in the Sudan that efforts are being made to ensure the safety of their loved ones until their arrival in Ghana”.
Meanwhile, the government has joined the international community to appeal to the rival factions to cease fire. This is to allow negotiations to resume for peace and for safety and wellbeing of the People of the Sudan.
